Chloe Madison: The Meaning of Her Name

Even in her ultrasound pictures she looks like a Chloe Madison

The name Chloe means verdant and blooming, it is from the Greek origin. The name Madison means Son of Matthew, it is from the English origin.

We thought of the name Chloe Madison before my 20 week gender ultrasound, both Mike and I really wanted to be able to call our baby by his or her name even while they still were going inside the womb.

Honestly not a whole lot went into naming Chloe. We wanted our daughter's name to be beautiful, elegant, and a little unique, also something that would fit her, her whole life. Both Mike and loved the name Chloe and thought the meaning of it was beautiful and perfect for our little girl. A few other names I liked (and still like) were Scarlet, Willow and Rose. Coming up with Chloe's middle name was a little harder for us though. The only name I could really think of that sounded good was Elizabeth but then Mike suggested the name Madison and I fell in love with it.

I'd love to hear about how you came up with your son or daughters name and what's the meaning of their name. Leave me a comment below sharing your story!

  1. Darwin is an English name meaning "Dear Friend." My Grandma came here from England so it was special to choose an English name. My husband also choose the name in reference to the Naturalist, Charles Darwin.

His middle name, Lewis, has family significance. My Grandfather's middle name was Lewis. Steve's Grandfather's middle name is Louis. We chose the first spelling to honor my Grandfather who unfortunately passed away before he could meet his great grandson.

I love Madison. When I was five years old I wanted to name my little sister Madison when she was born. I was so mad when my parents named her Paige haha.

  2. That is such a beautiful name! Very elegant. Our second daughter's name was named after people in our lives who we had recently lost, and it's a very (very!) old fashioned name which I really liked. My oldest daughter's name means "craved for," and it took us years to conceive her, so it fit. We actually had her name picked out before she was even conceived! On the blog though, I just call them Magoo and the Goose which fits just as well as their real names :-)

  3. I liked the name Avery, but Erik didn't like it. We had it narrowed down to Finley and Tatum, but still had no idea what her name would be when we checked into the hospital. After she was born the nurse went to get our families, and I said "Wait, she doesn't have a name!" And Erik was holding her and looked at her and said "I think she looks like an Avery". I was happy with that, he was happy and we've never regretted it! : )

In our baby name book my husband's name means "Forever Ruler" and my name means "Crowned Ruler" and Avery means "Wise Ruler". Erik liked that we were all "rulers". : )
