Each morning after I put Chloe down for her nap, and the dishes from breakfast are cleared and put away I sit down at my computer with every intention to write something for this blog of mine. As of lately though writing anything with substance has been a real struggle for me. This happens from time to time but eventually I always make it through, but this time it feels so much more harder to get out of this funk.
There have been so many post I've planned to write that just simply haven't happened. For example, I wanted to write a post about living with family, an update on breastfeeding, Chloe's birth story, life updates, and so many more. It's beyond frustrating to me to have all these ideas and words buzzing around in my head all day long but then not being able to form them into complete thoughts and paragraphs.
Can anyone relate?
If so here are a few questions I have.
-- When do you sit down to blog?
-- Do you schedule your post's?
-- What helps you write?
-- What sort of post's do you enjoy to write?
-- Do you ever get writers block? If so how do you move past it?
-- Do you ever jot down notes for a post in a notebook or piece of paper?
If you have any advice you'd like to share I would greatly appreciate it!
hang in there these slumps are definitely universal <3 i have been thinking of keeping a notebook, for like a year haha, but haven't started yet. ummm, no i don't schedule posts... it's hard enough to write one every few days i've never had spares up my sleeve! the thing that helps me write most is just sitting down and doing it. and i'm always glad i did. and reminding myself that it's not a competition... i'll never post daily or be as hilarious or stylish or whatever as some of my favorite bloggers... not every post is gonna get comments or whatever, but that's not the point. the point is you have this space that's yours, where you get to tell your mothering story, your way, and bond with other people in a really honest way and that's crazy awesome. and FTR i think you're rad, hope you get over your slump soon xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Lindsay for you sweet words, your very, very right! Its so easy to compare my writing/blog to others. I am really proud of myself and this blog of mine though, it has come a long way!
DeleteOh I have the same problem. I come up with all kinds of ideas but then when it come to writing I am at a loss. I usually sit down to write at Amy's nap time or bed time. But by then I am so exhausted I just want to relax and not think you know. I love my posts after they are written, but getting started is a challenge. I guess the only thing I could suggest is to write it on paper first and organize there. That helps me at least, especially with the other thousand things buzzing around in my brain being a wife And mother. Good luck, I love reading what you write.
ReplyDeleteIt drives you crazy doesn't it? Same thing happens to me all the time. Thank you Samantha for your kind words! I think I def need to start writing things down in a notebook first.
DeleteMeeee tooooo!! This is exactly what I'm going through. So I'm sorry I don't have advice. :( I'm finding it IMPOSSIBLE to sit down and blog regularly if at all lately. Lillian is really on the go at all times!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad I'm not alone! and I totally know how you feel lol!
DeleteFor me, I feel like I'm trying to soak up these last few weeks of summer and I really don't want to sit down and write as much as I usually do. I know I'll be stuck inside soon enough, so I'll keep my writing to a minimum for now, and enjoy the sunshine while it's here!
ReplyDeleteVery true Stephanie, I def write more in the winter then in the summer due to the weather.
DeleteWhen do I blog? Usually nap time. Night time is when I end up doing chores/Etsy orders. But sometimes after the chores are done I'll do some blogging then as well. I do usually schedule posts. Not for days or weeks but usually just for the next morning, especially if I finish a post late at night. Then I don't have to worry about it first thing. I'm inspired to write when I'm doing projects or activities with my family. I want to share with my readers and family who live far away so I get really excited. It's also motivation to WORK on projects! It goes both ways :) I definitely get writer's block. That's when I usually start spending more time on Pinterest to get inspired and find things I want to try. It also makes me consider writing more personal and/or controversial posts instead of just projects and activities. So I start to do a little research on different topics until the ideas start to flow. And finally, I do tend to keep a little tablet in my purse but more often what I do is create a draft post and just write in the title what I'm thinking about and then come back later to fill it out and actually write the post. Then I can see all my ideas at once when I sit down to blog and choose whatever it is seems to be more interesting for me to write about at that moment.
ReplyDeleteI sit down to blog mostly when Wyatt is sleeping. If I can get several posts done at once, that is the best! Then I do schedule them strategically and it helps with my blog traffic. I do get writer's block sometimes, I think everyone does. I typically end up just writing list posts, or posting pictures, or do a couple random-thought posts until some inspiration comes back. I always carry a notebook around with me so I can jot down ideas as they come to me! And then once I have an idea I just sit down and start typing - it's usually rough at first, and then I go back and edit until it's just what I wanted. BUt if I try to plan out everything I say before I write it, it's harder to get started, so I think it helps just to sit down and start typing!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way were I usually write better if I just sit down and do it. I would like to start carrying a little notebook with me though for when I get ideas and it would be so nice to be able to get a lot of blogging done in one sitting!
DeleteTypically I blog during naptime, but it seems that lately, I want to nap when Charlie naps. Not sure why 'm feeling extra tired lately, but I'm taking advantage of the extra naps! :) Of course, my blog has suffered because of it.
ReplyDeleteThat's when I usually blog too, it seems to be easiest for me that way. and hey if you get chance to take a nap then do it lol!
